⚙ ABOUT

About Escapement & Co.

An independent reference library and free 3D toolkit for people who take watches apart — and want to get them back together running properly.

What this site is

Escapement & Co. is an educational reference for watch repair and horology. Every page here exists to explain how a mechanism works, what a tool is for, or how to judge whether a job was done well. Nothing on this site is for sale, and no page endorses a commercial product.

How the content is put together

Tool and caliber pages describe generic families and widely published specifications — a 25-jewel automatic running at 28,800 vph, a 0.11 mm mainspring, a 2.5× loupe. Where a number depends on the specific part in front of you, the page says so rather than inventing a figure.

The 3D tools are simulations. They are built to make a mechanism legible — to show which part moves and in what order — not to predict what your watch will do. Treat their output as a teaching aid, not a measurement.

What this site is not

This is not a substitute for training, for a service manual, or for a watchmaker. Opening a watch you care about carries real risk: screws strip, hairsprings tangle, dials scratch, and parts are no longer available for many movements. We do not guarantee timekeeping results, and we do not certify any repair.

Safety posture

Horology involves sharp hand tools, flammable solvents, strong magnetism and small springs under load. The safety notes on each page are specific to the tool described and are part of the content, not a disclaimer buried at the bottom.

If a procedure on this site conflicts with the documentation for your specific equipment, follow the equipment documentation.

Corrections

If you find an error — a wrong figure, a misleading description, a broken tool — tell us through the contact page. Corrections are made and dated.
